The company was founded in the United States in 1985 as a subsidiary of French fingerprint system developer MORPHO Systèmes, S.A. In March of 1993, the SAGEM Group of Paris, France purchased both North American MORPHO Systems, Inc. and MORPHO Systèmes, S.A.

The SAGEM Group recently merged with SNECMA to form the SAFRAN Group.

SAGEM Morpho, is now a subsidiary of the European firm Sagem Défense Sécurité, a branch of the SAFRAN Group.
