MorphoTablet hosts ScanMyTWIC and PINchanger Android Applications to Support US TWIC Program
It now hosts the ScanMyTWIC and PINchanger applications for the TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) program, a Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Coast Guard initiative in the United States. TWIC provides a tamper-resistant biometric credential to maritime workers requiring unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities, outer continental shelf facilities, and vessels regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002.
The ScanMyTWIC application is a card holder diagnostic that performs a comprehensive scan of a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or PIV (Personal Identity Verification) card using either the contactless card interface via NFC or a contact reader. The contact reader is preferred due to the fact that much richer information is available over the contact interface. A Personal Identification Number (PIN) used in conjunction with the contact interface provides access to the facial image and any printed information. Detailed information is displayed and can also be emailed. ScanMyTWIC supports the TWIC Canceled Card List (CCL) that determines whether a TWIC card is still trusted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
PINchanger is a utility application that permits TWIC or PIV card holders to change their PIN value, assuming they know their current PIN. Generic Smart Cards LLC has developed this Android application for situations in which it may be necessary for TWIC card holders to change an existing PIN. Applicants can now request TWIC cards to be directly mailed to the transportation worker with a pre-assigned PIN value that has not been selected by the end-user. Evaluation versions of these Generic Smart Cards LLC Android applications are now available free of charge on Google Play. These evaluation versions are called ScanMyTWICeval and PINchangerEval. Generic Smart Cards LLC was founded in 2013 to implement diagnostic and testing solutions for smart card enabled initiatives (visit www.genericsmartcards.com for more information on these applications). According to a spokesman for Generic Smart Cards LLC, "The advantage of the MorphoTablet™ is the integrated contact smart card reader in addition to support for a Near Field Communications (NFC) contactless interface. The 7-inch display of this tablet, housed in a stylish ergonomic device, makes it the ideal platform to host Generic Smart Cards LLC diagnostic and utility applications."
