Mobile and automated systems to improve public security

Faced with limited resources and growing responsibilities, public and private organizations need innovative and flexible tools to meet a broad range of public security challenges.

Safran Identity & Security develops mobile and automated solutions to help security professionals and law enforcement protect people and property on every continent.

With mobile and automated systems suited to a complete set of public security challenges, from site and event security to identifying persons and vehicles, we facilitate the work of private security organizations and national and international law enforcement agencies worldwide.

Combining our expertise in biometric criminal databases and our advanced detection and recognition technology, our systems enhance and automate security procedures like identifying individuals, detecting narcotics and explosives traces, and enforcing road safety regulations. This helps security organizations and police departments make more efficient use of their resources, while giving officers more time to focus on solving crimes.

Helping the FBI solve more crimes

Safran Identity & Security is the FBI's preferred supplier of biometric identification systems, playing a key role in the development of this technology through its subsidiary MorphoTrak for over 40 years.

Having captured more than 3 billion fingerprints, we regularly innovates to improve the volume, speed, and accuracy of biometric matching, enabling the FBI to identify more criminals and solve cold cases all across the country.*

Safran Identity & Security has served as the trusted partner of the FBI since 1974, when the first Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) was developed by our subsidiary MorphoTrak, then known as Rockwell Autonetics. Since then, we have continued to provide more accurate, effective, and mobile search features for the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system.

Our continuous innovations have helped the FBI compile a database of 125 million fingerprints and achieve a search accuracy of 99.6% using our Advanced Fingerprint Identification Technology. The AFIS system handles an average of 230,000 searches a day. Through the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern (RISC), our technology enables the FBI to support 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the country by providing mobile searches in the field and from local police stations.

We also specialize in latent prints, or prints left at crime scenes. Since most latent prints are not covered by the standard ten print record, we expanded biometric records to cover the whole hand. Ranked #1 by the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) for latent fingerprint matching in automatic mode, our biometric matching algorithms lead to more crimes solved and safer communities, while freeing agents to focus on the most critical cases.
