Biometrics and pattern recognition

Morpho, the world leader in fingerprinting, has recently acquired Printrak, Motorola’s biometric technology company. The merger of Sagem Morpho Inc. (Morpho US subsidiary) and Printrak in the US was formalized with the establishment of the company MorphoTrak. Morpho and MorphoTrak together represent an additional global presence and a unique experience in biometrics and multibiometrics.

More than an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), MetaMorpho™ is a scalable platform that is able to incorporate new functions, new objects and streams. It uses cutting-edge technology and operates in a secure environment. It is an APFIS as it analyzes both fingerprints and palm prints.

MetaMorpho™ is at the heart of a global solution called Morpho™ Police, which comprises a network of workstations dedicated to the various functions and tasks of police officers:
- Fixed LiveScans to capture and scan prints before transmitting them to the APFIS.
- Portable LiveScans and AFIS to speed up the elimination of residents and regular visitors at crime scenes
- Expert stations, comprising powerful fingerprint processing tools. These stations are notably used to exploit files containing latent prints lifted from crime scenes.
- Non-expert stations to scan a large volume of fingerprint files simultaneously and transmit these to the database

Due to the totally digital network operation of its workstations, and its compatibility with other image-related technologies, such as portrait, tattoo and scar processing, Morpho™ Police has led to the following advances:

- A very significant increase in the number of crimes solved, due notably to the improved accuracy of processing algorithms developed by Morpho, and the capacity to process palm prints, and other images such as portraits, etc.

- The real-time identification of suspects and criminals, due to a network of client terminals and servers with extensive national coverage.

- The switch to paperless work procedures.

- The facilitation of information exchanges, not only within the APFIS, but between similar forensic police organizations sharing the same standards.
