On the Fly: innovation that speeds up security
Avoiding contact: Finger On the Fly®
The world's fastest contactless four-finger scanner, Finger On the Fly® encapsulates the innovative approach of Morpho R&D, and how core technical expertise supports new developments. Growing pressure to find ever faster, more accurate scanners that maximize available security resources gave the impetus to take traditional finger print scanners to the next level. Finger On the Fly® turns the concept on its head completely; swiping four fingers across the scanner provides an efficient and elegant solution to feeding the device more information, improving both accuracy and speed.
This unique dynamic acquisition solution could not have been realized without Morpho's deep expertise in sensor technology nor without the quality of its algorithms. The resulting solution is transformative; Finger On the Fly® captures images of the user's 4 fingertips with sensors capable of analyzing shapes in 3D. The algorithms process the resulting data in less than a second.
The system's form and function means that a subject can be moving during fingerprint capture – improving user experience and removing the need for human assistance. Finger On the Fly® is ideally suited for applications such as border control at airports, as well as access control at sensitive and high traffic sites.
Original thinking meets deep expertise
The drive and inspiration for the On the Fly products came directly from R&D; asking ‘what if' questions directed technological developments that would improve ease-of-use and deployment flexibility, while fundamentally changing how people interact with biometric devices.
Current On the Fly products meet business expectations, but we continue to innovate; plans are underway to further optimize product form factors, giving even greater deployment flexibility. Superior user experience combined with the ability to deploy anywhere is set to broaden the use of On the Fly products, ensuring that Morpho continues to lead the market in advanced biometrics.
Iris acquisition: Morpho IAD™
Like fingerprint biometrics, iris recognition solutions typically take time and require cooperation from the subject. In recent years, competition to develop ‘walk through' iris recognition systems has intensified. Ultimately, Morpho's smart engineering has made all the difference, introducing the industry-changing Morpho IAD™ that leverages our deep knowledge of biometric algorithms and sensors, while pushing the technology forward.
Combining facial recognition and iris scanning cameras, Morpho IAD™ takes barely a second to scan the face and both irises at distances between 0.8 and 1.2 meters, compared with the 4-7 seconds required by the most powerful solutions prior to its launch.
The camera arrangement enables the system to record a real-time image of an individual and their position in space. The acquisition system uses the resulting data to calculate the ideal moment to capture the iris image, so the operation is completed within a second. The iris image sensors capture light in the near infrared range, which reduces interference from melanin in dark-eyed individuals.
Morpho IAD™ features an optimized form-factor that enables flexible deployment. That the capture cameras have the capacity to move and so cope with the different physical heights and eye sizes further aids deployment. This system flexibility, plus minimal operator and subject involvement, has led to rapid adoption worldwide, including in countries such as the US and UAE.
