Morpho’s production centers in India and Brazil receive ISO 14001 certification for their environmental management systems

Savings of 3 – 5 % in energy consumption are targeted

Paderborn / Taubate / Noida, October 29, 2010

Morpho (Safran group) is pleased to announce that its smart card production centers in Taubate, Brazil and Noida, India, have achieved ISO 14001 certification following an external audit confirming their compliance with all the relevant environmental protection laws and regulations. The ISO 14001 standard has been in place since 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system.

"The environmental aspect has become an important factor in our market", explained Paolo Villasco, Senior Vice President Sales Americas at Morpho. "Along with the certification, we have set strict environmental targets for this year – we plan to cut water and energy consumption by at least 5%."

Sanjeev Shriya, Managing Director Syscom and Senior Vice President Asia Pacific of Morpho's e-Documents Division: "As one of the most modern smart card manufacturing centers in Asia and the largest personalization centre in India, our mission is to also be a leader in environmental protection. Today, for example, 96% of all waste is being recycled. This year, we aim to reduce electricity and fuel consumption by 3%."

Over 90% of all smart cards produced by Morpho's e-Documents Division now come from certified sites.
